Introduction of Floral Scent Traits into Asiatic Hybrid Lilies (Unscented) by Crossbreeding with <i>Lilium cernuum</i> (Scented)

Although a strong floral scent is typical of hybrid lilies, Asiatic lilies (Lilium spp.) have only weak scent. Therefore, developing new cultivars with pleasant scents an important objective in lily breeding programs. Among the wild species contributing to establishment, L. cernuum has characteristic that nose can perceive. We crossed twice introduce traits into and emission F1 plants their progeny lines was evaluated instrumentally. Flowers emitted benzenoids/phenylpropanoids (mainly 2-phenylethanol benzaldehyde), monoterpenes (predominantly linalool oxides), fatty acid (iso-valeric acid). Lilium gave off unpleasant odors mainly because iso-valeric emission. The flowers also these three chemical classes. derived from crosses between plant, all classes released one or two were segregated, some terpenoids without emitting acids. successfully selected elite predominantly scents. this study demonstrated introduction production capability using interspecific hybridization cernuum.
